Description

from Million Dollar Quartet
Welk Resort Theatre is proud to present an all-new production of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, based on the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed recording session where Sam Phillips, the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll" brought together icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for one unforgettable night.

On December 4, 1956, Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records in Memphis and the man who discovered and started their careers, brought together the four legends-to-be for the only time in their lives, for what has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time.

Featuring the greatest rock 'n' roll, gospel, R&B and country hits from these music legends, including "Blue Suede Shoes," "Walk The Line," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Who Do You Love?," "Great Balls of Fire," "Hound Dog," and "Whole Lotta' Shakin' Goin' On," Million Dollar Quartet tells the story and captures the high energy spirit and rockin’ sounds of a unique moment when four of music’s most extraordinary talents, all in their creative prime, came together for one of the most memorable nights in music history.

"Like Being There...."
August, 2016
This show was amazing, more like a version of the Broadway Play. The musicians were so talented, sounded like the original performers, had their actions down, they actually became who they were portraying. Sound and lighting were great, it would be a great family show for anyone who likes Rock & Roll. The 4 main characters were amazing, but equally amazing were they female singer, the "owner" of Sun Records, and the band. Being a bass player, I will tell you, the guy on the Upright is as amazing as anyone on stage. You need to see it if you are a fan of any of the 4!

"Awesome Music!"
July, 2016
MDQ is well acted and the actors became their characters and all were great musicians. Great Music, even better history of the four as it provides as early glimpse into Sam Phillips' Sun Records.

"Great Musicianship"
June, 2016
It was nice to see a show with a little bit of storyline to it. The actors playing Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins were great instrumentalists and gave the show the "something special".

"Million Dollar Quartet - Worth More than a Million!"
October, 2015
I am a big Elvis fan and also have enjoyed the music of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. I knew the backstory of the play a long time ago and could not wait to see it. When we decided to go to Branson to celebrate our 20th anniversary, I was beyond excited to discover "Million Dollar Quartet" was showing during this time. We bought tickets for the night of our anniversary and we could not have picked a better way to celebrate. The show was even better than I had anticipated. It is a play as well as music and it is fabulous! All of The actors were great but we especially got a kick out of the actor playing Jerry Lee Lewis. He had every move and comment right on. If you are a fan of any of these singers and you can attend only one show while in Branson, go to this one. You will not regret it! I would rate this show OUTSTANDING but the choices stopped at Excellent.

"Million Dollar Quartet"
October, 2015
I thought this was an average performance by seemingly average performers. Perhaps they were more talented than their roles called for. There was more time expended on the story and not enough on what everyone comes for: the singing. I personally would not and have not recommended the show. We had a far, far more entertaining experience from a man show by Joseph Pokorski.

"Outstanding! Not to be Missed!"

We saw the show just before Thanksgiving, 2017, and lucked out and had front-row seats in the center (that never happens.) Anyway, the show was just incredible. Great story, based on true events. The acting was terrific and the instrumental & vocal talent was spot-on. The guys who played Presley, Lewis, Perkins & Cash had all the nuances of the original artists down. I'm a musician myself and tend to be overly critical musically (it's a curse :). That said, I have absolutely nothing negative to offer here. I would consider it a "not to be missed" show in Branson. It's unique and downright fun. Sorry - no photos of the show here since photography was prohibited. But, after the show the cast meets out front for anyone and everyone who would like a photo with them. The cast was patient, kind and accommodating, not seeming to care how long the line was.

"Excellent and entertaining performance"

I just recently learned the story behind this show which is what prompted me to see it. The show was very good with a cast of eight I believe. I am familiar with the four musical artists represented in the show, and they did an excellent job. The man playing Sam Phillips was convincing. I have seen many live plays and his performance was well executed. I am not familiar with the character of Marilyn Evans the young lady portrayed, but her singing was of excellent quality as well. The performance by the bass player, "Brother Ray" was somewhat surprising. I've before never witnessed an acoustic bass played as if it were Pete Townshend's electric guitar in a The Who concert. As is true with most bands, the drummer did not have an upfront role, though you simply cannot have a successful band without percussion and Fluke filled this role admirably.

We went to see the Million Dollar Quartet only knowing what we had read about it. It was excellent and I don’t hesitate recommending it to others to GO SEE THIS SHOW! Music is wonderful, of course! The gentlemen who play Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis were great. I especially thought Johnny Cash was the best! What a talent all these guys have. The only thing I didn’t like was them asking for reviews at the end. The show is so good they didn’t need to do that. I’d see it again if I went back to Branson

"Excellent Show if you love the Roots of Rock"

We had 6 adults and 4 kids ( 14-6)....I'll start by saying the 4 kids who have never heard of any of these guys most likely, stayed awake and enjoyed it a lot ( for you parents out there). I've been to Sun Records studio, and they reference the night and sessions portrayed in the show ( basically a tribute to that night and what "probably" happened at Sun studio). The artists themselves did an excellent job of portraying the legends. I do think Jerry Lee Lewis is " hammed up" a little, but the artist can really set fire to a piano keyboard....And he IS essentially the comic relief. I personally liked the artist portraying Johnny Cash. He's got him down great. The show tells a story, which is nice, not just guys taking turns singing hits ( what I anticipated honestly). The actor doing Sam Phillips was awesome as well. To sum up,...A MUCH better and engaging show than I expected, with well played music and a really cool " premise" . I'd happily take others back and see it again. Oh, and the base player and drummer stink ( just kidding, they were awesome too but forced into asking for good reviews at the end). My ONLY complaint was the " if you liked us....Don't forget to give us a good review" schtick as we were leaving.....Cmon guys!! Your show is AWESOME....Just let the show speak for itself, no need to beg. On a 10 scale, I'd give it an 8.5👍👍👍

Johnny Cash was spot on (except his voice was better) Elvin was spot on Carl Perkins was an amazing electric guitar player Jerry Lee Lewis was outstanding and his piano tricks were mesmerizing. Diane's rendition of "Fever" was great and she was much much much better than the Diane in Vegas-this Diane seemed to have a place in the show though she wasn't part of the million dollar quartet. IF still on next Christmas time, I definitely will go again and bring others along
