Another great Silver Dollar City festival is scheduled for the end of August. The Southern Gospel Picnic Festival presents the top performers in gospel music, along with delicious home-cooked style food. The festival features 12 days of fantastic music, including performances by Dove Award winners, Hall of Famers, newcomers and several top recording artists. From August 27 – September 7, there will be over 300 musical performances at Silver Dollar City, so any day is a great day to venture to the City.
Traditional artists that will be spotlighted include Dove Award winners The Kingsmen, Gold City, Brian Free & Assurance and The Booth Brothers. Popular groups like Jeff & Sheri Easter, Karen Peck and New River and Mike & Kelly Bowling will also appear. More contemporary artists include The Isaacs and Austins Bridge, while crowd favorites the Reggie Saddler Family, as well as the Dixie Melody Boys, Tim Lovelace, Legacy Five, The Downing Family, Mark Bishop and many more are scheduled to appear.
Worship services are scheduled for September 6, and will feature The Lesters, as well as a minister/humorist Dr. Dennis Swanberg.
Of course, the Southern Gospel portion of the festival wouldn’t be complete without the delicious picnic fixings that can be found at The House of Chicken and Fixin’s and The Picnic Wagon, which are located on The Square. You’ll have to try the double-battered southern fried chicken, smoked barbeque chicken, apple glazed chicken and all of the signature accoutrements that make a southern style picnic finger-licking good!
During the Southern Gospel Picnic Festival, Silver Dollar City is open form 10am-6pm. On September 5-6, the park is open form 9am-7pm. Performances throughout the day are followed by Southern Gospel Nights concerts each evening in the park’s 4,000-seat amphitheater.
