The 21st Annual Downtown Branson Fiddle Festival is scheduled for August 28-30, 2009, along the shores of beautiful Lake Taneycomo. Celebrating the heritage and history of the Ozarks, the Fiddle Festival pays homage to an art that is near and dear to the Ozarks.
This year’s festival will also feature the Mid-American Fiddlers Championship.
The event kicks off Friday night, August 28, with bluegrass legends Big Smith. They will perform at 8pm in the front of the fountains at Branson Landing, and the concert is free and open to the public. Saturday, August 29, the competition will begin with preliminary heats, scheduled for 10am-7pm. After a gospel service on Sunday, at 10am, the finals will begin at noon and last until 5pm. The competition portion of the event will take place at the same location as the Big Smith concert.
More than $5000 in cash prizes will be awarded to winners, who will compete in six divisions: Pee Wee (ages 9 and younger,) Junior (10-16,) Senior (60 and older,) Cross Tuning, Seconding (guitar/bass accompaniment) and Open. All division winners, with the exception of Cross Tuning and Seconding, will also compete Sunday afternoon for the Grand Prize title.
An Ozarks Music and Culture tent will also be available in Branson’s historic downtown area, located just up the street from the Branson Landing. It will feature seminars, a farmers market, street performances and sidewalk sales.
The entirety of this event is FREE. It is FREE to watch and FREE to enter.
The festival is sponsored by The Downtown Branson Main Street Association, in conjunction with The Historic Downtown Branson Business Owners, The Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, The Branson Landing and the City of Branson.
