The Shepherd of the Hills Cast

The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama is a Branson tradition.  The show, which is returning for its 55th season, retells Harold Bell Wright’s epic story of love, loss, power, hardship, and the true meaning of life.  The epic tale takes over 110 cast and crew members to produce.

The show is unique in that it is performed outside, under the stars.  This gives a very real feel to the sets and allows for real animals to be used during the show.  In all, 40 horses, a flock of sheep, several guns and rifles, an actual burning log cabin, and a vintage 1908 DeWitt automobile to make the live action performance the legend that it is today.
The infamous burning cabin scene.

Based on Wright’s book, the tales of the people of these hills come to life each night at Shepherd of the Hills.  Wright had based his book on real people and real event’s, then embellished them for good measure.  The location of the Shepherd of the Hills is especially poignant, though, as the site of Inspiration Tower is where Wright set up his tent overlooking the mountains and wrote his novel.

Shepherd of the Hills tickets are available for show now through mid-October.  Since the show is performed outside, the season is scheduled to end October.  As this is a family show, a money-saving family pass is available.  Individual adult tickets also feature a $6 discount.
Over 7.5 million people have seen the Shepherd of the Hills.  If you haven’t, don’t miss out on one of Branson’s finest shows.  This season is sure to a special one as the show had previously had its final curtain call in October 2013.  Thankfully, it was able to return for another season in Branson.  The Shepherd of the Hills is not just another Ozarks show – it is the story of the Ozarks.

Are you a fan of magic?  If so, there is an all-new show in Branson you won’t want to miss!  Rick Thomas, master illusionist, is appearing at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre this season.  His show is one of nine featured at the theatre in 2014, all of which are produced by Jimmy Osmond.

Thomas has performed throughout the world, including headlining his own Las Vegas show at venues including the Tropicana Resort & Casino, Planet Hollywood Casino and Sahara Casino.  He has also headlined shows on cruise ships, a tour in Europe and appeared on numerous national television specials such as “The World’s Greatest Magic.”  Over the years, Thomas has been awarded the World Magic Award of Magician of the Year and Stage Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts.

One of the reasons Thomas excels as an illusionist is magnanimous stage presence, honed during years of ballroom dancing.  His gracefulness and showmanship combines with his winning personality to create a show attendees are raving about.  Throughout the show, Thomas references dreams and dreaming.  Both are very important to him, as he states that’s where his magic comes from.  With magic viewed as the art of dreaming, anything is possible.  At the show, illusions both large and small are performed.  More illusions will be added throughout the year so the show remains fresh and new for visitors.  Expect a lot of audience participation, too, and a chance to go on stage with Rick Thomas as a magician’s assistant.  Kids love to be involved in the show, and it’s a highlight for parents as well.

Thomas performs the most intriguing and innovative grand illusions in the Midwest with a style unlike any other magical entertainer. His stage presence is unmatched as he weaves magic, music and dance into a seamless spectacle.  Purchase your Rick Thomas tickets today to see this all-new Branson show. Thomas takes the stage March 28 through October 4, 2014.

Jonah, Sight and Sound Theatre’s newest production, recently debuted in Branson, Missouri to rave reviews. The show had previously headlined the Lancaster, Pennsylvania theatre location, during which it broke all sales records. Visitors and locals alike are already making Jonah a success in the Ozarks. Read on to find out why this show intrigues so many, from young to old.

Like all Sight and Sound Theatre productions, Jonah is a Christian-based religious show although it appeals to a wide audience. The plot of Jonah revolves around the famous Bible story of the prophet Jonah. When Jonah is asked by God to deliver a message to the people of Ninevah, who are enemies of the Israelites, he refuses and flees in an attempt to get away from God. During his journey he encounters a variety of interesting characters and ultimately finds himself inside the belly of a whale for three days. After this time, he eventually heeds the word of God and sees the purpose of his mission.

You might be wondering how a live theatre performance can create sea-worthy scenes, including ones located inside a whale. With the magic of Sight and Sound Theatre’s technology, crew and cast, a production has been put together that magically transports guests to the era of Jonah. The $3 million production of Jonah features more than 40 performers and 71 set pieces, including a 30,000-pound boat that is 50 feet long, 28 feet high and, when the hull doors open, is 50 feet wide. Known for its extravagant set designs, this boat is the largest single set piece ever built by Sight and Sound Theater designers, as well as a centerpiece of the show.

The elaborate sets of Jonah Branson are combined with special effects for a truly immersive experience. Together, these two elements turn the entire theatre into an unbelievable underwater atmosphere. Attendees see glowing jellyfish and coral reefs, in addition to fake animals appearing underwater. Real life animals like horses, camels, donkeys, goats, birds, llamas, alpacas and sheep also appear on stage.

Other shows presented at Sight and Sound Theatres have been centered on Jesus, Joseph or Noah – men who were very “Christ-like.” Jonah, however is sinning all the time which adds a bit of comedy to the show. Producers hope the comedic aspect helps relax show-goers while they also are attentive for the message told through Jonah’s journey or redemption. Plus, this show easily connects with young kids as it is normally a favorite from Sunday school and a tale they are already familiar.

Come see the show for yourself in Branson, MO! Jonah tickets are on sale now.
