Plans are already being made for Branson Veterans Week 2013.  The event, which is planned for November 5-11, 2013, will feature dozens of events honoring the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.

So far, plans are underway to bring back the Veterans Village and Welk Resort will once again host the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.  The opening ceremony show – “Vets for Vets” – will also return, but at new time, 2pm, and at a new, yet to be decided location.
Other events in the works include a POW/MIA Service at the Traveling Wall on November 6 as well as the Women Veterans Rose Petal Ceremony and Military Gala on November 9.
We will reveal more about Branson’s Veterans Homecoming Week 2013 as details become available.

Editor’s Note:  Shorty Smalls will replace The Andy Williams Moon River Grill on March 13, 2013.

Indulge your taste buds with a visit to the Andy Williams Moon River Grill.  The restaurant is located next door to the Moon River Theater, making it a convenient choice for a dinner and a show.   A variety of dishes are available on the menu, which is inspired by Williams’ favorite meals.

Delicious, made-from-scratch entrees also pull from Andy’s mom’s recipes.  Homemade comfort foods are a signature of the menu.  A list of “Andy’s Favorites” includes meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and deep dish lasagna.  House specialties like stuffed quail, pecan encrusted trout, and steaks add to the menu options.  Save room for dessert, though, as the decadent peanut butter chocolate pie and carrot cake are made fresh daily.
Atmosphere at the Andy Williams Moon River Grill reflects Andy’s love of art.  Andy’s private Warhol pop art collection, as well as famous photos, creates an elegant yet relaxed place to dine in Branson.

Branson, Missouri has been named one of America’s Best Places for Holiday Lights by Yahoo.  Branson was included on the list with destinations such as New York, Chicago an Orlando.  Specifically, Yahoo referred to three major lighting displays in the area that really make the holidays sparkle in the Ozarks.

The three best places to see holiday light displays in Branson include:
Silver Dollar City: Over four million twinkling lights bring this 1880s-styled theme park to life during its Old Time Christmas Festival.  Plus, a five-story special effects Christmas tree sparkles with over a million lights and the Holiday Light Parade shines twice nightly throughout the park.
Shepherd of the Hills Trail of Lights: Located on the 160-acre Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead, this drive-through light display features a two and a half mile trail winding its way through the natural scenery of Branson.
Branson Area Festival of Lights: Visitors will find more than 175 light displays along this one-mile drive through display.  Conveniently located right off the famous Branson Strip, the Festival of Lights is a tradition for locals and vacationers.

January 1-2:  Branson Area Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights extends into January for two days. It’s your last chance to see the one-mile drive illuminated with over 175 displays. Located off Shepherd of the Hills Expressway and Roark Valley Road. Open from dusk until 11pm. Family vehicles cost $12.

January 1-15:  White Flight at the Butterfly Palace
Experience a one-of-a-kind exhibit at the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure in Branson. Thousands of white butterflies flit and fly in a rainforest atmosphere among twinkling lights.

January 12: Masters Trout Championship at Lilleys’ Landing
The Master Trout Championship hosted by Lilleys’ Landing begins at 8am. The tournament is catch-and-release and only artificial bait can be used. The entry fee is $50 per each 2-person team. Big Trout cash prizes will go to the teams with the heaviest brown and rainbow trout. The entry deadline is January 12 at 7:45am. Visit Lillys’ Landing for more information.

Silver Dollar City has been recognized once again as for its spectacular Old Time Christmas Festival.  USA Today has names the theme park as one of the “10 Great Places to Put a Spin on the Christmas Spirit.”

In the 20 plus years Silver Dollar City has been hosting Old Time Christmas it has attracted quite the following.  The Branson event is rated one of the top five holiday events in the country by Good Morning America, CNN Travel, The Travel Channel and AOL Travel. One of the reasons the festival has become so popular is the more than four million lights adorning the park.  Illuminating the 1880s theme park, the lights and lighting displays have evolved over the years to be even more dazzling.  This rings true with the Christmas tree showpiece that is the center of The Square.  Their beautiful 5-story special effects Christmas tree sparkles and dances in unison with over one million lights adorning the City’s square and is a breathtaking sight to see. Some of the music featured includes “Carol of the Bells,” “Joy to the World,” and “Sleigh Ride.”
Entertainment is also a big part of the Christmas spirit found during Old Time Christmas.  Since 2003, the park has produced “A Dickens’ Christmas Carol.”  This year, the Silver Dollar City is adding a musical version of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Reserve your Two Days for the Price of One Silver Dollar City Tickets to experience the Christmas spirit in Branson, Missouri.
