Description

from Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama
At The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theatre, Harold Bell Wright's epic story of love, loss, power, hardship, and the true meaning of life is immortalized. It takes over 80 actors and actresses, 40 horses, a flock of sheep, several guns and rifles, an actual burning log cabin, and a vintage 1908 DeWitt automobile to make the live action performance the legend that it is today.

Since our first season in 1959-60, the outdoor drama has entertained millions of Branson visitors. People who came to see the show as children come back to bring their own families. The cast members exhibit the loyalty and affection they have for the story itself. Several of them have been in the drama since its inception. The Shepherd of the Hills is not just another Ozarks show - it is the story of the Ozarks.

"As good as it gets."

You really can't condense the whole book into 2 hours, but they did a great job. We enjoyed it immensely.
Tip: Our kids ages are 7 and 10. I wouldn't recommend a lot younger.

"Fav Non-Music show in Branson"

We came to this Outdoor Drama almost 36 years ago the first time. We have seen Shepherd of the Hills in the years since probably 12 times. We love it and love the experience each time we come. Seeing it last year without the original cast was different but the story had the same impact on us after all these years.
Tip: Don't worry about being at the very front of the show ... the above seats are more comfortable and it allows for you spread out a little.

"Enjoyed the show"
February, 2015
The story is about the Shepherd of the Ozark Mountains--the history of the Hills. I grew up not far from these Ozark Hills and remember when there wasn't much to Branson. It was great being reminded again of this rich history. Actors are local families, not Hollywood performers. Enjoyed seeing it again.
Tip: It is outdoors--prepare for the type of weather you are in. Seats have no padding--bring your own pad, if needed

We made reservations for a show in late May 2017. Drove the family from Texas to see the show. When we got to Branson we learned they never reopened for the 2017 year. They are still closed. No notification from them.

"End Of An Era"

We have enjoyed the outdoor theater production, trail of lights, and the breathtaking views from Inspiration Tower over the years. But as with many older attractions and venues in Branson, The Shepherd Of The Hills is NOW CLOSED. As announced and confirmed by news media today, the bank is foreclosing on the property tomorrow 5/10/2017. So sad that the end of an era has come for this legendary facility.

This production was amazing! The amphitheatre is nestled into the hillside, which creates a wonderful atmosphere. Everyone was super friendly and seemed to truly be one big family. They allow people to participate in an old fashioned square dance at intermission, which was great fun. The play follows the book to a tee. You can just tell that everyone involved in the production is doing so because they truly love it, their passion for telling their story is like nothing I have ever seen. It is a lovely story with a timeless message for all generations and creeds. If you are ever in Branson, you can't miss this show!

"Observation tower"

The tower sits atop of the hill at shepherd of the hills outdoor theater. You ride a glass elevator ten stories up then you get to walk around the entire glass tower. It is nice if you have not seen Branson the way it used to be back in the day. Now you get to see how commercialized it has all became. It is the only reason I gave it a three. I grew up in the summers and now they just keep taking the beauty of the hills and the trees away.

We love holiday lights and have gone to see countless displays. This one is really sad. I would suggest you carefully look at the pictures and understand the entire thing is 80-85% animatronics that are tired and ugly. It may appeal to you but we thought is was really bad. The tower was a dud as well and needs to be remodeled. So Sorry folks. I really prefer to tell you good (or great) things.
