from Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama
At The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theatre, Harold Bell Wright's epic story of love, loss, power, hardship, and the true meaning of life is immortalized. It takes over 80 actors and actresses, 40 horses, a flock of sheep, several guns and rifles, an actual burning log cabin, and a vintage 1908 DeWitt automobile to make the live action performance the legend that it is today.

Since our first season in 1959-60, the outdoor drama has entertained millions of Branson visitors. People who came to see the show as children come back to bring their own families. The cast members exhibit the loyalty and affection they have for the story itself. Several of them have been in the drama since its inception. The Shepherd of the Hills is not just another Ozarks show - it is the story of the Ozarks.

You really can't condense the whole book into 2 hours, but they did a great job. We enjoyed it immensely.
Tip: Our kids ages are 7 and 10. I wouldn't recommend a lot younger.

"Fav Non-Music show in Branson"
March, 2015
We came to this Outdoor Drama almost 36 years ago the first time. We have seen Shepherd of the Hills in the years since probably 12 times. We love it and love the experience each time we come. Seeing it last year without the original cast was different but the story had the same impact on us after all these years.
Tip: Don't worry about being at the very front of the show ... the above seats are more comfortable and it allows for you spread out a little.

"Enjoyed the show"
February, 2015
The story is about the Shepherd of the Ozark Mountains--the history of the Hills. I grew up not far from these Ozark Hills and remember when there wasn't much to Branson. It was great being reminded again of this rich history. Actors are local families, not Hollywood performers. Enjoyed seeing it again.
Tip: It is outdoors--prepare for the type of weather you are in. Seats have no padding--bring your own pad, if needed

"Oh, how I wish I could have written a good review :( I'm sorry!"

After seeing this outdoor drama 25 years ago, I took my family (including 7 year old son). The acting was not impressive, the story was long and drawn out, and we were all ready to go after an hour.
Tip: Plan for a 3-hour event

This is a very neat production. We got our tickets and were in row 7...it was during off season so it was not busy. We asked if we could move because our kids couldn't see and they told us we could sit anywhere because they were not busy. We got front row seats! The kids loved the animals and gun fights. They also enjoyed the intermission up on the stage square dancing with the cast!! Thanks for the memories!

It has been a little over a year since my wife and I move into the Branson area. One show we both have wanted to see and experience was at the Shepherd Of The Hills Outdoor Theater but because of my work schedule it never to come to pass until tonight. What can you say about a production that has been playing for 57 years? Wowser! The only complaint both my wife and I have to register is that the sound and mikes on certain actors was not balanced well and at times was hard to hear what they were trying to project. Some had to do with actors not enunciating their dialogue clearly. Otherwise it is a production we highly recommend for all ages.

This is a very good outdoor drama. Very interesting. It does help if you have read the book (Shepherd of the Hills by Harold Bell Wright) The actors are friendly and you can interact with them.

"A Story That Never Gets Old"

We first saw The Shepherd of the Hills 31 years ago on our honeymoon. The most recent return visit was the last week in August and it didn't disappoint. This visit was an introduction of a granddaughter to the history of the area. Histrically based it tells the story of a stranger who comes to the Ozark region to find himself and becomes a beloved piece of the community. This closely follows the book written by Harold Bell Wright unlike some of the Hollywood versions. Touching, funny, action filled, with the audience asked to participate in the square dance, there was enough to keep the interest and entertain this multi generational group. Stick around after the show and meet and greet the cast members. They are some of the friendliest and most talented people in the area.
