Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama in Branson, MO

THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS OLD MILL THEATRE
5586 W. Hwy 76Branson, MO 65616
At The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theatre, Harold Bell Wright's epic story of love, loss, power, hardship, and the true meaning of life is immortalized. It takes over 80 actors and actresses, 40 horses, a flock of sheep, several guns and rifles, an actual burning log cabin, and a vintage 1908 DeWitt automobile to make the live action performance the legend that it is today.

Since our first season in 1959-60, the outdoor drama has entertained millions of Branson visitors. People who came to see the show as children come back to bring their own families. The cast members exhibit the loyalty and affection they have for the story itself. Several of them have been in the drama since its inception. The Shepherd of the Hills is not just another Ozarks show - it is the story of the Ozarks.

Reviewed October, 2015
We had three yr old with us and he did not want to set and watch the show I notice that there was other young children and they were not interested in staying still that long either
Tip: the show is not gear for children under five they tend to get restless and do not want to set still that long

"Fav Non-Music show in Branson"
Reviewed March, 2015
We came to this Outdoor Drama almost 36 years ago the first time. We have seen Shepherd of the Hills in the years since probably 12 times. We love it and love the experience each time we come. Seeing it last year without the original cast was different but the story had the same impact on us after all these years.
Tip: Don't worry about being at the very front of the show ... the above seats are more comfortable and it allows for you spread out a little.

"Enjoyed the show"
Reviewed February, 2015
The story is about the Shepherd of the Ozark Mountains--the history of the Hills. I grew up not far from these Ozark Hills and remember when there wasn't much to Branson. It was great being reminded again of this rich history. Actors are local families, not Hollywood performers. Enjoyed seeing it again.
Tip: It is outdoors--prepare for the type of weather you are in. Seats have no padding--bring your own pad, if needed

"Oh, how I wish I could have written a good review :( I'm sorry!"

After seeing this outdoor drama 25 years ago, I took my family (including 7 year old son). The acting was not impressive, the story was long and drawn out, and we were all ready to go after an hour.
Tip: Plan for a 3-hour event

"We did the horseback riding here and loved it!!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed April 27, 2016 NEW

This was our first time visiting shepherd of the hill , and we went horseback riding at the stables here. It was a great ride! Lot's of going down hills and up some hills as well. The horses were beautiful!! Our guide was nice too. It cost $30 for an hour ride, which is normal priced for horseback riding. At the end of the ride, they even let me and my family feed them carrots we brought for the horses! Great place to horseback ride!

"Trail of Lights"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed January 06, 2016

Its cute for what it is. A bunch of lights over 2.5 miles. It's slow based of how many cars are going through as well. We had fun laughing at all the different scenes that were displayed. Would I do this again.. probably not but at least I can say that I've experienced the lights in Branson. It could be nice for smaller children who enjoy christmas lights as well. A little pricey but we purchased discount tickets on reservebranson.com.

"OK but little pricey for what you see"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed January 03, 2016

$35 for a car load of 5 people. It was a neat attraction but by the end it seemed like it was never going to end. Definitely older and didn't seem to have any updates in the last 10 years. At that point you see an alien Christmas display. The observation tower had a great view.

"Read the book before you come"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed January 01, 2016

The tour is great if you have read the book. You see Old Matt's cabin and Inspiration Point, the guide knows all about the history associated with the book. We also did the zip line - so much fun, an easy glide from the top of Inspiration tower. The shooting gallery was lots of fun and not expensive. The play is also more meaningful if you have read the book. For those who have not it will be boring and amateurish. We loved it but you need to read the book before you come!

"Trail of Lights - Nice, Expensive, Dated"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed January 01, 2016

We enjoyed the Shepherd of the Hills 'Trail of Lights' Christmas light display. It is very expensive though. There is a per person charge as opposed to a car charge. $12 per adult and $6 per child. That adds up for a car full of people! It is a nice drive-through display, but some of the displays look old and worn. We really enjoyed the Christmas music that was playing along the 2 plus mile drive. Nice, but expensive!
