I don’t know where to start because it was that fun! Staff were friendly and caring to our needs. The water park was way better than expected! I was not expecting that much fun. They have many life guards available that walk around to make sure everyone stays safe and life jackets are available for your littles. I had a great time and will definitely be choosing this as our choice of stay each year

"I liked this place"
July, 2018 NEW
I really liked Castle Rock, room was clean and quiet, I didn't hear anyone around us which is always a big issue for me. The water park was great for our 3 and 7 y/o grand kids. Check in took about 5 minutes no line to wait in. The location is great too, it is a block off the main drag on the yellow route, you can go anywhere without getting stuck on Hwy 76. I am pretty picky and hard to impress but I liked this place.

Hotel itself wasn’t very upscale. Had a lot of flies and nets. The walls and carpet had stains.

The pool experience was okay, kids really enjoyed swimming.

It took 5 hours and 3 calls to the front desk to get a fridge for the room... Also they wouldn’t give us fresh towels and wash clothes in a timely matter, we had to track down a maid to get fresh linens...

Tip: There is no elevators where I was, on a second floor... the only elevator there was is in the main building. And front desk has a snotty attitude..

"Depends on what you're looking for."
June, 2018
My time at the Castle Rock Resort was a mix of good and bad. The rooms were older, and not as fresh as I would like. I travel A LOT for work so I'm pretty tolerant and it didn't get me down. They were decently clean, and the towels were plentiful - the television worked and there weren't bugs. The cleaning room staff was AMAZING with the amenities. I'm a fat guy so I use a lot of soap and towels, and they provided plenty of each. I was traveling with my wife and 2 small kids, so each day we would have fresh towels and like 5 shampoo/soaps left for us in the bathroom. Personal note on the bathroom - I'm tall (6'3) and the shower head hit me in the belly button... wife loved it since she said it made her feel tall. (she's 5'4")

The check-in was actually fairly annoying. I pre-purchased and was accused and laughed at - until she confirmed that I was right. I did not feel that the women behind the counter was very professional nor was she courteous. I believe she had suffer an illness in the past that affected her speech, so perhaps it was just simple confusion - but after insisting that I had paid for 2 rooms, and trying to show her my proof of receipt, she would laugh and say "Well, the system doesn't show that, does it?" without allowing me to see the screen.

Also, during my check-in process there was a lifeguard who was arguing about his paycheck with another one of the day management. He clearly did not speak english fluently and though nice, he just didn't understand how the payment system worked. She was very rude to him, and personally I feel like this should be handled behind closed doors - not infront of two families road weary from a 6hr car drive. :)

Finally she relented to look it up, and after processing my first room... we literally went BACK through the argument with the second. She began insisting that I might have paid for the first room, but not the second... until she looked it up.

The water park was a neat amenity but not really one I would pay a premium for. The chlorine was SUPER high (expected) and it was painfully warm in the building. The big bay doors could be opened to cool it down but the lifeguards said no.

The water slides were a lot of fun, if not worn, and the "lazy" river is more geared towards kids than relaxing in a moving current. Not bad for the price, but get what you are expecting - this is not a place on par with other indoor water parks.

There were several creepy older guys walking through the pool areas the whole time we were there. A few looked a bit seedier than I would like and were casually leering at the younger bikini'd ladies. Kind of creeper vibes - keep an eye out. I don't know if they were staying at the hotel, or paying to go into the pool area.

The restaurant was not open when we were there - and looked fairly cafeteria. Being in Branson I would imagine it's hard to compete with the sheer volume of specialty eateries in the area.

Tip: It's a value establishment - you get what you pay for. Don't expect much from hospitality.

"Slightly less than a disaster"

Reviewed August 12, 2018 NEW
Well, I’m not sure where to start. We came to Castle Rock for a family reunion. This was our first time staying here and we were leery after reading some of the reviews. We reassured ourselves that it couldn’t be that bad and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I will try to be as factual as possible and leave the emotion of the experience out of this review. As a family we rented a total of six rooms and none of them were what I would consider to be well maintained (you’ll notice this being a theme throughout). The rooms: Upon first glance, the rooms seemed to be clean. We checked the beds for bed bugs and didn’t notice anything, so we deemed it to be safe to sleep in. After crawling in bed, my wife noticed that the comforter smelled like urine. The door to the bathroom in several of our rooms wouldn’t latch, and there were many little things that were in disrepair, from an outlet cover missing in our room to surveillance camera wires duct taped and dangling along the hallway. The Lobby: When you first walk in the lobby, there is a smell that isn’t awful, but it also isn’t very inviting (I imagine it is a musty smell from the abundance of humidity from the nearby indoor water park). There are also holes all along the baseboards in the lobby where the luggage cart appears to have been rammed into the wall at least a few hundred times. The stonework on the front of the main building is very pretty and inviting as well as the decor in the lobby. The amount of time taken to check in was more than I have ever experienced at other hotels and seemed to be fairly disorganized. Two of the people that we spoke with at the front desk (a tattooed Hispanic male and a dark haired woman) were very pleasant to deal with, but I imagine they are victims of the disorganization more than we were even able to see. A man named John checked in my mother in law and was extremely rude to her and my wife. I was not present for this or I would have certainly handled this situation on the front end. The water park: Again, I am not sure where to start. We were initially pleased with the size of the water park and the amount of different amenities that it offered. That was until we started making our way around and noticing the lack of maintenance to most of the water features. The lazy river is a dingy brown color from the rust stains on the liner. The water seemed to be clean, clear and properly disinfected, but it was not an appealing color due to the staining. The first trip around the lazy river, as I was pushing my daughter in a tube, that the water park provided, I was caught off guard by the floor of the pool bubbling up (I mean like massive bubbles, larger than a basketball, that you WILL scrape your knee on). The lazy river was also the only pool in the place that seemed to be heated above frigid. The kids slides were nice and held our kids’ interest for quite a while and the volleyball pool was probably the best part for us, despite it being held up by a PVC pipe, which didn’t affect the usability, it just added to the overall feel of a lack of a competent maintenance department. We saw many pictures with a tipping barrel inside the water park and when we arrived we found it to be partially removed. All of the components were there except for the barrel itself. There was a tipping barrel outside, so it wasn’t that big of a deal. Overall, my kids enjoyed the experience and we decided not to show them our disappointment with our choice of vacation destination. The “Cafe”: BEWARE!!! As part of our group package we received yellow wristbands which allowed us to eat breakfast for free in the cafe. As we walked in, we could hear several people complaining about this or that. We figured since it was free, we would give it a shot. BIG MISTAKE!! I have never seen charred scrambled eggs before, but I decided to pass and try a couple other things. The potatoes were decent, and I didn’t mind the sausage, but the mixed fruit, which I assume came from a can a couple days ago, was inedible. Juice costs extra and the pancake machine was broken (Shocker). The second morning, we went back in very skeptically, and saw what appeared to be the same charred scrambled eggs (I’m not exaggerating, they were partially black). We immediately turned around, checked out and went to Starvin Marvin’s for breakfast. Checkout: the redeeming quality that bought them a two star rating. The same dark haired woman (who i am starting to think may be a manager) helped us check out. She almost seemed afraid to ask how our stay was. We could overhear another unhappy guest being quite vocal to the other desk clerk about their experience, which further acknowledged the fact that we weren’t just being overly picky. We politely let her know that the night before checkout we were in the party room that we rented and the a/c quit working. We called maintenance and they said they would bring us a box fan..... then they couldn’t find one, so we just left the (now sweltering) party room and went mini golfing. After telling her this (and painstakingly withholding our other grievances), she agreed to give us a 20% discount. I imagine we could have pressed the issue and gotten more, but we took this as a learning lesson and moved on. I am sure that I have missed something, but I imagine you get the gist of the story. Next year’s family reunion may be better or it may be worse, but it won’t be at this place.

This place was not for us. It had its ok factors, but overall we won’t be back. It just looked dirty. From the steps up to the room to the edge of the pool. Everything just needs a good cleaning. The pools need cleaned and vacuumed. The lifeguards were ok. Some were very friendly and helpful, but several just looked Ike’s like they would rather be anywhere else. The shower is only about 5 1/2 feet tall so if ur any taller it does make showering difficult. My worst complaint has got to be the bed. Ugh. It was so hard, it was misery trying to sleep at night. We were there 3 nights. We didn’t eat at the Resteraunt but we walked through it a few times to get to the pool. I wouldn’t eat there. I just wasn’t happy with our stay. The pools are ok for small kids.

My husband, I , and our three girls made a quick trip to Branson for some back to school shopping. The weather had been so hot when we made reservations for a hotel, we decided to forfeit using our season passes to Silver Dollar City and chose to stay here for the waterpark as a fun thing for the girls to do after shopping. I will break the review down into categories: The good: The hotel is in a great location. Just off the main strip with easy access, but less traffic. The bunk beds in the room made it so each girl could have their own sleeping space. The air conditioner was in great working order. The bad: There needs to be some maintenance in the lazy river. The bottom lining was coming up in areas and it was rough when you hit them. There were also not enough tubes. They only let you use the two person yellow ones. They had about 7 or 8. The water in all the pools but the lazy river was freezing. The carpet in the room wasn't filthy, but it wasn't super clean either. The water pressure in the shower was a little weak and the toilet paper holder was coming off the wall on one side so you had to hold it so it wouldn't fall to the floor while getting paper. The Ugly: Here is what makes me angry. We spent one night in Branson. After packing up the room, checking out, and some more shopping, we made our way home. We unpacked the car and relaxed a little. That night my husband couldn't find his toiletry bag. We looked in all of the suitcases and in the car, but it was nowhere. I called the hotel the next morning and was told that nothing had been turned in from our room number. I know we left the bag there. There was no where else it could be as we used it that morning and did not have it when we got home. They may not have had it "turned in", but someone there had to have seen it when they cleaned the room. My husband also told me he killed a roach in the bathroom while I was with the girls in the waterpark. I would have given this hotel a two or three rating even with some of the issues, but I can't in good conscious do that when we were basically stolen from (even though we left it there by accident, I would hope a hotel would staff people who would turn things over to management or whoever in case someone calls to recover a lost item).

Rooms were not clean. RR very dirty. Breakfast was included but the kitchen was down so we didn't get out paid for breakfast and they did not offer vouchers. We were just out. I am very unhappy with my stay and would not stay again. The pool slide had a screw sticking out so my kids could not use one of the slides. This may be a family run business but the family is not kind. Rude help. Never again. So sad. so disappointed.

"Urine And Feces On Floor - Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed In - July 2018"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed July 30, 2018 NEW
Started terrible and ended terrible. We had to wait in line to check in due to several people at the front desk with complaints. When we finally got to our room the smell was overwhelmingly terrible so we tried leaving the door open, but outside smelled terrible too. Within five minutes I took my shoes off and walked between the bed and air conditioner in search of a working electrical outlet. To my dismay, the carpet was wet and sticky. When I smelled it there was no doubt - it was pet urine. While I was down smelling the carpet I also noticed several pieces of dog feces in the same area of the carpet. The urine soaked area of the carpet was about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long. This was supposed to be a smoke and pet free room. I called the front desk and they told me they would get us a new room then hung up. After about 10 minutes of waiting I walked down and spent another 15 minutes at the front desk getting a new room sorted out. While I was at the front desk, housekeeping went to the room and questioned my husband as to whether or not the pet mess was already there when we arrived. (We had no animals and had only been there 15 minutes. Obviously not enough time for an animal to make such a mess and the feces dry completely.) She then proceeded to pick the feces up with a plastic bag, spray carpet freshener on the floor, and tell my husband that if we really needed it we could call the front desk again and somebody could probably use a wet vac on the carpet. (Are you kidding me?!?!) We got to the new room, which smelled slightly less awful (but only slightly) and quickly found that not all of the electrical outlets worked in that room either. There were king size sheets on the queen size beds, so they didn't stay in place well. We also discovered that the toilet doesn't flush all the way, and the room was missing the ironing board. While attempting to iron my clothes on the bed, I noticed that the smoke detector was completely encased in dried up toilet paper. Somebody had clearly wet a bunch of toilet paper and wrapped it around the smoke detector to prevent it from going off when they smoked (who-knows-what) in the (nonsmoking) room. Judging by the dust on it, it's safe to assume that it had been there for some time. The walls are paper thin, so I was woken up every time the baby in the next room woke up through the night. The waterpark was just ok. All of the indoor pools were freezing with the exception of the lazy river. They all looked filthy as if they hadn't been cleaned in years. Ventilation in the building was poor so the amount of chlorine in the air burned our eyes. One of the female lifeguards was very rude, and one of the male lifeguards spent far too much time looking at the bodies of the prepubescent girls. I felt very uneasy with him in the same area as my young daughter. The "restaurant" is just concession stand food for eat-in dining prices. No free breakfast at this hotel. Every time we went to the front desk there were people making complaints about one thing or another, including two rooms that didn't even have any towels in them. I will never go back to this hotel and would not recommend it to anybody.
